The VYA have procured a lovely venue in the New Forrest for the 2022 event and this will take place on the 26th November 2022 at the Woodlands Lodge Hotel, Bartley Road, Woodlands, Southampton, SO40 7GN.
Full details of the hotel can be viewed at https://www.woodlands-lodge.co.uk .
The Woodlands Lodge Hotel is a charming “boutique” hotel with 3 acres of private grounds opening onto the New Forrest. Originally built in 1550 then extensively revamped in 1770 and believed to be owned and used by the Duchy of Westminster as a Royal Hunting Lodge. It later became a country house hotel in the 1950s - The Woodlands Lodge is ideal for our event and we have booked the entire hotel. There are a limited number of rooms (17 in total) so it is very important to make your booking early to ensure accommodation for the event which is being co-ordinated this year by Cindy Hammond (V34P Pajero) who has been liaising with the hotel on behalf of the VYA.
We are really delighted to announce that the evening’s presentation will be given by Thom D’Arcy about his circumnavigation in his Vancouver 28, Fathom. Many members will be aware of his truly epic three year adventure sailing around the globe. During this time he crossed the Atlantic to the Caribbean, passed through the Panama Canal. He then crossed the Pacific down to New Zealand and Australia before heading up through the Indian Ocean to Cape Town, South Africa. From there he set out across the Atlantic again back to the Caribbean before heading home to Britain across the Atlantic for a third time. This is an evening not to be missed.
We are also intending to introduce a raffle to the evening’s event with a number of sailing related prizes to be won, among other things. Proceeds to the RNLI.
The New Forrest - designated a National Park and an area of outstanding natural beauty was established in 1079 by William 1 - is a beautiful location for the event with walking opportunities direct from the hotel along with many other “attractions” near-by for those who don’t fancy walking. It would certainly be possible to make a weekend of it by booking a second night’s stay to take advantage of all that the New Forrest has to offer, particularly if you’ve driven a long way. Bookings for rooms should be made direct with the hotel, NOT through the VYA. It would, though, help to know how many members would like to consider that option. If you wish to book a second night it would be at the same price as the first night.
The VYA has negotiated an extraordinarily good price for rooms. To do this we have had to agree to book the entire hotel for the event on a non refundable basis. Any shortfall in rooms will therefore have to be paid for by the VYA. However, should there be a waiting list for rooms that will not apply. Of course, should we find ourselves in a new Covid lock down situation again there would be a postponement or refund arrangement in place. Whilst this appears to be unlikely now we cannot rule it out in the light of past experiences.
Room prices, which include breakfast, are as follows:
6 Standard rooms @ £70
8 Deluxe rooms @ £80
3 Suites @ £100
We would strongly advise early booking for this event if you wish to avail yourselves of overnight accommodation so as not to be disappointed. Do not wait till the last minute.
Again, we stress, ROOM BOOKING MUST BE MADE DIRECT WITH THE HOTEL AND REFERENCED VYA.
BOOKING FOR THE DINNER SHOULD BE MADE THROUGH YOUR VYA WEBCOLLECT ACCOUNT. CLICK THIS LINK TO TAKE YOU TO THE LOGIN PAGE FOR YOUR ACCOUNT HERE
